Philip Thomas


Philip Thomas has over twenty-five years of experience working in the fields of conflict prevention, transformation, peace building and Democratic Dialogue.  He has designed and facilitated hundreds of training programs across five continents and is recognized globally for his work in democratic dialogue and multi-stakeholder engagement processes.  Philip has worked with heads of state and corporate executives as well as leaders of communities and indigenous groups, and a variety of civil-society and governmental organizations, from local to international. 

Since 2005, Philip has been working as senior consultant for different UN agencies and has also been supporting other international organizations and global initiatives in capacity building as well as in the design and implementation of multi-stakeholder dialogue and change processes.   Most recently, he has worked in Afghanistan supporting the UN Assistance Mission (UNAMA) and in Somalia offering direct support to the President, Prime Minister and top leadership of the newly elected government.

Philip co-authored with Bettye Pruitt Democratic Dialogue: A Handbook for Practitioners(2007), a joint publication of the UNDP, OAS, CIDA and International IDEA.

In addition to graduate studies in theology, Philip holds a Masters degree in Administration from the University of Notre Dame, a Masters degree in Organizational Development, and is a doctoral candidate in Human and Organizational Systems at the Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, CA.   His current professional interests include multi-stakeholder engagement processes, program evaluation, conflict prevention and peacebuilding, democratic governance, and institutional and human capacity-building.

He now resides in the United States and, as Founder and Principal of D3 Associates, continues to support different organizations in Latin America as well as in Africa and Asia.
